Off We Go Into the Wild Blue Yonder

This is a part of brooklyn( somewhere close to Graham Ave to be particular) that i've brought back with me, it's a pair of vintage heels that i adore very much for the different shades of blues and perfect fitting. I don't even know how to begin to express my thoughts and emotions about vintage shoes that fits well and comfortably. The fact that it was also the most favorable pair in the entire store was the greatest thrill. It's times like these when i feel like the most fortunate person and then i stare into the mirror, look at the shoes and think, "have these shoes been waiting for me all these while?" Because the thought of something waiting for you and me makes the whole experience even more magical, for us. (Whether is it that you're in some denial or not, it's not that much of a big deal.)

And this is how i blabber when it comes to talk about the blue cowboy vintage shoe. Pardon me if you can't tolerate the exaggeration but those words are honest.

Follow by the next part of brooklyn, the Williamsburg Flea was where i adopted this floral printed vintage outerwear. I like the femininity of the coat and the rose prints on cotton that looks like painting on a canvas. You know, when your country is going through a wet season, the polyester fibers really makes you not want to take it off at all. With a pair of jeans, basic inner wear and the cutting of the swanky looking vintage coat would be enough to pull the weekends off. It is the alternative of my blanket.

Now it's my time to end this post and get out of my blanket before i waste a precious day of my holiday away. Have a fruitful weekend and be reminded that Christmas is round the corner, get your presents ready for the 25th!

A Day With My Insects.

Credits: Jon Chan

How did your weekend went, lovelies?
I missed blogging so much i'm putting the projects on hold until i'm done with this.

It has been long enough since i wanted to show and tell you guys about my insect top. The yellow vintage top that i dug from the American Vintage  store in Pasadena(LA) is one of the tops i would never ever give or throw away. The furtherest it would be from me would probably happen when my future daughter ransack my wardrobe and finds herself falling for the same top that her mother did in her youth. Only then would i consider lending it to her for of our mutual love for cross-stitched insects.

The vibrant colored threads that the (unknown) designer from the vintage era chose for the insects to be cross-stitched on the yellow banana+mustard(on the ikea hot dog) are so simple yet detailed. Cross-stitching reminds me of a moment in my childhood when i wanted to cross-stitch an elephant pencil case for my dad and give it to him as a birthday present in a particular year. I brought my cross stitch pouch everywhere i went and i did it on the bus, in the cab and whenever there was an advertisement break between my 7pm to 10pm television program break.

However, after all the effort, all the time spend and the many 24th October that has passed, the potential pencil case is still in my old cupboard. It is/was disappointing because the only reason why i never gave it to him was because i did not know how to sew the corners such that it'd look like a pencil case. Besides, my mom never knew how to sew so i never went back to it. By the time i knew how to sew, i was old enough to realize that it was a gay idea so i dropped it...

Moving on to the bell pants inspired from the sixtiesssssssssssss made in the twentiessssssss and produced by forever twentyoneeeeeeeee. Yes, be surprised my friends, beautiful things can be found anywhere as long as you keep your eyes open. The only problem i had with this pants is the length… It is obvious that it wasn't designed for asians with short legs like me. Thankfully, with my ASOS 4-inches sandals, the pants were able to hide my toes and not cause me to trip over any excess materials.

Oh how blessed i am to have pants that could hide my ugly toes yet give me an unproportionate long legs, which i would never achieve in my whole life without the bell pants.

Before i sign off, i wish all of you a purposeful week ahead~

Foodgasm.

My grandma's peanut butter noodles.

It's about time i be honest about my weight gain after 3 months away in a place that serves twice the portion i normally take in at home. My funny friends would whisper into my ear and ask me how much weight i gained and i would slide my right hand out of my pocket with my five fingers spread. Yes, i gained 5kg from california to new jersey to new york. Despite of all the zumba, jumping jacks and jogging i did in jersey, i still did not manage to balance the intake with the output.

Do you think you can maintain or even try to embrace self control when all these food are placed in front of you? If possible, please be kind to me and tell me how you resist the temptations, i will heed those advices the next time i go on a holiday. For now, i shall commemorate the unique taste every individual dish has left me with, while you indulge in some food fantasies.

If you are ever at a loss to support a flagging conversation, introduce the subject of eating. Leigh Hunt

These contents are a little unusual from what i normally have on this space but i promise they are a few of the many good ones in NYC. Besides, they are places both my new yokers cousins recommended so they were marked, tried and reaffirmed by a tourist from Singapore too.

Any kind person with better food radar, please kindly leave a comment below so that everybody can grow fat in NYC together.

ShackStackBurger

After trying the different burgers throughout my whole trip,
...Bobby's Burger Palace's L.A.Burger> ShakeShack's ShackStack> In-n-Out's DoubleCheeseBurger...
FriedRiceCakes(NonSpicy/Spicy)
FriedBonChonChicken(Spicy/NonSpicy)

Best place for chicken wings and fried rice cakes so far.
I can't remember the different names of the dishes but the MangoLassi(yogurt drink) is best there.
I don't think it's Ippudo in Japanese though.
WashyuGyuAmiYaki
PorkBun
KarakaMen
Banana, LemonBlueberry, ChocolateMarshmallow

My favorite cupcakes,

Henrik Vibskov's Boutique-NYC

Being in NYC for another week for the third time during this trip had me thinking about lots of things. Well, i was alone and i had nobody to talk to so i thought to myself about everything. What would it be like living in NY? Just as difficult as living in Singapore, both are competitive cities. What cuisine should i have today? Japanese. Which cupcakes from Sprinkles should i get? Lemon Blueberry, Chocolate Marshmallow and Chocolate Banana. What if i were a boy? I would have just as much fun dressing myself up. Would i wear high waist pants? Hmmmm... FOR SURE(I didn't forget that i would have something between my legs though).

I'm not sure if Henrik Vibskov decided that men should start putting on high waisted pants and designed a couple of those for his buyers or i was way too into the thought of myself as a boy in high waisted pants but the idea of a multi colored pant on either a boy or a girl feels/looks fun and gay, which traditionally means happy anyway.

The Henrik Vibskov boutique in 456 BROOME STREET 10013 NEW YORK- USA has more than just the triple D(designer, drummer and daddy of a child) man's collections. It has also been beautified with many creative jewelry made by a couple of designers in NY, like Susan and Vanessa, that also helps out at the boutique. Let me tell you how i feel about the jewelries in the boutique, some are ravishing and some others are fascinating but all are creative.

These are the little creative and sincere things that tourists have to see to be able to truly understand New York City. You need to see it and put it on to feel the fun of it.

SemiNike Dress

This is the Nike Shirt + extra material = Shien's DIY dress.

I was feeling so comfortable that day, except for the weather that was dehydrating many living things other than the roses outside the house( i was surprised though), i wore everything blue. Or at least majority was blue but i still think that they all someway or another matched. See, the dress is now semi Nike since it has been DIY-ed and those sports shoes are from Nike so they make a pair. Then, the dress is obviously blue, the beret is baby blue and the socks are blue(excluding the pineapples) too.

Don't you feel right?

Anyway, i've been thinking about the purpose of this blog and my time spend before school starts in August. I realized that i've side tracked from my purpose or my resolutions for this blog and this year quite a bit. I wanted to create and that was my priority but i got too caught up with the other blogging stuffs and etc-including staring at Facebook for i don't know what purpose, maybe i was addicted or maybe i thought that my holiday was eternal. I stopped making that often and after i did this dress, i remember how much i wanted to sew when i didn't have the time to do so because of Olevels. From right now, i am determine to balance things out and try to stay on track while i still have the time to do so. Let's hope that school won't take too much of my own time away, until then, let's be positive about every little changes on Shien.

People without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots. -Marcus Garvey

This wrapped skirt that i spotted in a mess of vintage clothings in brooklyn's Fort Green's flea market got me so excited. Actually everything at the flea had me excited but my point is that this skirt reminds me of my tradition. Who knows, i may be going through a 'reviving my asean self' phase since i've been in a completely westernized country for a few months already.

Red base with lotus and all the other chinese looking flowers and a few random peacocks camouflaged in a chinese garden + hawaiian flowers printed cropped top = multiracial harmony. Agree?

Either that, it may be the peacock on the skirt. I had a liking for flamingos and peacocks, both beautiful and elegant large birds, ever since my first jurong bird park excursion with my kindergarden. I remember wondering how the flamingos could stand on one leg and not feel tired, and when the peacocks decides to open up his feathers, until i knew how to use google.

Anyway,  i ought to be rolling on my bed right now because i'm so tired. I went to bed at 5am after completing my nike shirt + extra material = DIY nike dress, which i am excited to show you guys but another time, and spent a long day in the car and at the airport sending Dara and Kit back home.

So, have a good day while i put myself on snooze till the sun comes out.
